LUNARS POT DATA SHEET Pot Data Spreadsheet - BLANK

Hi Everyone! :)

Above is the link to download the Excel Spreadsheet to keep track of your Pot data. You should save it to your computer and then make a copy of it. Each time you begin fishing you should fill in your data on the copy, leaving your original blank (like a master copy). Now every time you want to start a new sheet you load your original potdata blank file and then make a copy of it.

NOTE: You will need to use either Microsoft Excel, Open Office, Google Documents or some other sort of spreadsheet software to be able to use this file. If you do not have either of the programs click on the links for more information.

WHEN A CAPTAIN CHOOSES HIS CREW FOR THE FIRST TIME HE/SHE MUST DECIDE WHO TO CHOOSE FOR A GOOD CREW. IN CHOOSING A GOOD CREW THERE ARE A FEW THINGS ONE MUST CONSIDER SO HERE I WILL TRY AND PUT SOME EXAMPLES FOR A GOOD CREW.WHEN YOU CHOOSE YOUR CREW FOR THE FIRST TIME TAKE THIS INTO CONSIDERATION!!

1) YOUR DECKBOSS MUST HAVE HIGH STATS HE MUST BE ABLE TO DO EVERYTHING FROM ENGINEERING TO COOK.
2) YOU SHOULD HAVE A CREWMEMBER WITH THE HIGHEST FIRST AIDE STATS DOING FIRST AIDE.tHE HIGHER THE FIRST AID STAT THE FASTER YOUR CREW WILL HEAL UP FROM INJURIES.
3) HAVING A CREWMEMBER WITH HIGH COOKING STATS SHOULD BE IN CHARGE OF COOKING FOR THE CREW.IF YOU HAVE CREWMEMBERWITH LOW STATS YOU HAVE A CHANCE OF FIRE IT'S UP TO YOU.

CAPT'S LOG: DASHBOARD DOODAD'S

IN THIS PART I WILL GO OVER SOME THINGS ON THE DASHBOARD THAT IS NOT DISCUSSED IN THE TUTORIALS.
1) THE GAS GAUGE: MOST GAME CAPTS DO NOT THINK THE FUEL GAUGE WORKS.I CAN TELL YOU THAT IT DOES WORK FIRST HAND CAUSE I RAN OUT OF FUEL AND HAD TO BE TOWED BACK IN TO PORT.SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AT LEAST 14,000 GALS OF FUEL.THE BOAT WILL USE ABOUT 1,000 GALS OF FUEL PER DAY.
2) THE DEPTH GAUGE ALSO IS NOT JUST FOR LOOKS IT IS MEASURED IN FATHOM'S 1 FATHOM=3FT 3 FATHOMS=18FT 11 FATHOMS=66FT. THIS DEPTH IS WHAT YOU WILL SEE THE MOST OF.

CAPT'S LOG CREWS STATS & THERE ROLES.

WHEN CHOOSING YOUR CREW IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO USE THERE STATS COOKING,ENGINEERING,FIRSTAIDE. 3OF YOUR 5 CREWMEMBERS HAVE SECONDARY JOBS SO CHOOSE WELL OR IT MAY COST YOU DOWN THE ROAD.

1) EDGAR HANSEN-10% DECKBOSS,HE HAS THE HIGHEST STATS OF ALL THE CREWMEMBERS.
2) BUSTER-------------9% DECKHAND AS BUSTER HAS SOME HIGH STATS HE DON'T GET ALONG WITH OTHERS VERY WELL.
3) TOM S.---------------8% DECKBOSS,LIKE EDGAR TOM HAS HIGH STATS WHICH MAKES HIM A OK DECKBOSS.
4) STAN HANSEN-----7% DECKHAND STAN HANSEN'S NICKNAME IS (MONSTER) FROM THROWING THE HOOK.

We're excited to see the creation of this page, and so many other fan creations and efforts. If CountryDrummer gets too excited at times, don't worry, it's just a sign of his passion - and he is a decent enough guy to allow some friendly editing along the way.

CAPTS LOG : HOW MANY POTS & SPACING??

When you set out for your first KING CRAB season you need to decide a few things otherwise you may wish you had decided to go another way.I am not gonna say my way is golden but after playing so many hrs on my 360 and now the hrs of the PC game.If you are new to the game DO NOT!! Start out with 200 pots and space them out so far apart where ya spend more time going from string to string.Start out small 120 pots is a good start and keep them in a pattern that can be gotten to without traveling 100 miles. I started a KING CRAB season on 12-12 with a 120 pots and i never use 120 pots mine is usually 200-225 pots but for some reason i decided to go with 120 pots. Being new to the game starting out small is something you should do or it could be game over before you get passed the first season.Here is what you should do.

1) START OUT WITH 100-120 POTS(KING SEASON) THEN IN OPIE SEASON 100 POTS IS A GOOD START
2) SPACING IS A BIG THING TO CLOSE AND YOU WILL CONSTANTLY BE STARTING AND STOPPING ALL THE TIME .
3) 0.1 IS TOO CLOSE WHEN SETTING THE GEAR WHEN YOU GO TO RETRIEVING, THE GEAR YOU WILL BE STARTING THEN STOPPING DOING THIS YOUR CREWS MORAL WILL BE EFFECTED.
4) 0.2 IS A GREAT SPACING BECAUSE YOU CAN RUN FULL THROTTLE WHEN SETTING GEAR AND ABOUT 7.5-8.0 KNOTS WHEN PICKING THE GEAR BACK UP .
5) WHEN THE GEAR HAS SOAKED ENOUGH I WOULD SAY 44-48 HRS IS GREAT ANY SOONER AND YA MIGHT NOT GET AS MANY LBS AS IF YA WOULD ON A 48 HR SOAK.
6) AFTER PULLING AND RESETTING THE GEAR ONCE ON A 120 POT STRING YOU CAN DECIDE TO STACK OR STORE AT LEAST 40 POTS THIS STILL WILL LEAVE YOU 80 POTS TO FISH WITH.OF COURSE THIS DEPENDS ON A LOT OF ISSUES: 1) CREW INJURIES 2) BOAT BREAKDOWNS 3) THE BIGGEST ISSUE WHICH YOU DON'T HAVE ANY CONTROL OVER THAT IS THE WEATHER.

These tips that i have given are not a sure winner each and every capt is different on how they do things but the ways that i have tried have worked very well for me as i have hammered the crab in both king and opie seasons.But the most important is EXPERIENCE the more seasons you get under you belt the better.

When you go to set your gear most Capts go by the survey map.The survey map is 5 months old so what shows good crab then may mean NO CRAB NOW!! Especially in the light red area's i have found 1st hand it showed the crab was there and i set my gear there man how wrong i was. Low numbers boat breakdowns & crew injuries to boot just capped it all.Surveys are good but not taking into consideration that they are 5 months old could destroy a good season to one of fines and possible bankruptcy then it is GAME OVER!! So all i can say it choose your areas well. Remember the KING CRAB move in a southerly direction every season how far is not really known just that they move south.

8) Kenny Hendricks has to be the most CHAUVINISTIC FOOL i have ever came across.If you hire him or Tom you will hear something about a woman being on deck and most of the time i will hire either Terri or Roxanne just to put a fire under Kenny especially when he says i aint workin with no damn woman on this boat.

CAPT'S LOG: TO STACK OR TO STORE THAT IS THE QUESTION

When we get ready to pick up the gear for the second time around there are alot of things to consider.The soak time should be 44-48 hrs even the second time around soak times are important.Before picking them up look at these things first or should i say think of these things. Season hrs are the most important and depending on how many pots you have soaking more than likely the season hrs are at about 85-88 hrs. At this time you have 2 choices either stack them which takes more time but by stacking the gear you will save money.2nd you can store them this option is where after the pot is empty the crew tosses it back in the water storing can cost in upwards of $1,200 bucks depending on how many pots are in the water.If you are a penny pintcher like some Capt's i know of .Hell some of them won't even stick money back in the boat unless it breaks but that IS NOT good business.The Crew and the Boat are the most important to a good season if the crews unhappy you WILL NOT get any work done .Then if you ignore the boat you risk your DECKBOSS doing more fixing than fishing and also risk a fire on board.Saving money by stacking the gear can easily backfire when running down the 24 hr whistle.The 24 hr whistle can make you alot of money or bust ya if you have alot of gear still in the water.

NEWS FROM THE CRAB GROUNDS

The 2008 KING CRAB SEASON has pretty much come to an end.According to Dutch Harbor news the price of King Crab hit $ 5.00 bucks a lb compared to last yrs $4.19 alb .Out of the 77 boats that started 66 of the boats have finished up the 2008 King Crab season.Now a few of the fleets boats will take off until opie season 2009 and the 5th season of the deadliest catch which will start airing in April 2009.A few of the boats like the Northwestern will Cod fish until the opie season starts in Jan 09.

A NEW BOAT JOINS THE DEADLIEST CATCH FLEET

A new boat is joining the fleet this year it is the boat where 21yr old JOSH WHITE had fallen overboard while chaining down pots in high seas. Capt John Hilstrand had his eye on Josh since he was so close to the water.Capt John said he could touch the water thats how high the waves were and how close Josh was to the water.THEN!! Josh was gone well Capt John rescued Josh and now the boat that Josh was on is joining the fleet this season.It is the 133 ft TRAILBLAZER .The TRAILBLAZER is Captained by Capt Wayne Baker,Capt Wayne runs a 6 man crew let hop that Josh will keep his feet flat on the deck or more than that watch out when chaining down pots and use a little more common sense because Capt john won't be watch to see him fall into the water. Capt John said he finally made up for the one he had lost before. I can imagine the whole crew of the Time Bandit felt pretty good.

CAPT PHIL RETURNS TO THE WHEELHOUSE OF THE CM

Capt Phil has been consulting with his Drs but from all news he has returned to the wheelhouse of the CM.That is where he belongs not watching from the sidelines.Relief Capt Murray Gamerath did an awesome job taking over for Capt Phil when he needed it.I think that showed a great amount to take over and we know Capt Phil worried a little bit but Murray kept telling him not to worry about nothing but Capt Phil had more to worry about than fillin the tanks.As a cancer survivor and unable to get around due to my back blood clots really scares me but i can't worry about it when i have other problems to worry about.We can just keep Capt phil in our prayers while he is out there and we all know he will take all the precautions while out there and listening to his drs or we will all kick his A$$.

FRIDAY JANUARY 9,2009

The year has started off to a bad note with another crab fisherman being claimed by the frigid Bering sea 43 Yr old KEITH CRINER was pulled overboard when he got tangled up in a crab pot line and was pulled down with the pot . This is ONE of the most feared things that a crewmember faces while out on the deck of a crab boat even the camera men that film the show can get caught up.Criner a Veteren of the 98 ft Seabrooke was fishing about 22 miles Northwest of Cold Bay Alaska. The Seabrooke is owned by ANGEL PACIFIC FISHERIES out of Milton Freewater Oregon. The Coast Gaurd conducted a extensive search for CRINER along with other fishing boats that was in the area but they could not find him my heart and prayers go out to the CRINER FAMILY.

FALLEN COMERADES BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Each and every season that the men set out fishing whether it be cod fishing in between King Crab in Oct or Opie's in January. In the Dec 07 & Jan 08 season only 1 man was lost in the frigid Bering sea making it 42 men all together,that was until the Alaska Challenger went down with 47 crew members aboard.After the rescue took place all but 5 members had been rescued. It is believed the 5 that were lost did not have there survival suits on which made there survival time from 1 hr to 3 minutes .But when on the boats the Capt's say that it weighs in the back of the mind.David Ness's brother died right on the docks he was working up 2 stories on stacks of pots and fell down hit on the edge of the rail and fell into the water they say he was dead before hitting the water.So we never know when it is gonna be the time.If a boat has too many pots in opie season and ice builds up then come big waves by this time the pots are one big popcicle then the center of gravity shifts and makes the boat top heavy and then it will do like the Garry Edwards and the Big Valley did it sunk.There was just one survivor Deckhand/ CASH SEELE

A 43 yr old crab fisherman KEITH CRINER was lost overboard while dropping pots off the 98 ft SEABROOKE Criners leg got tangled up in a pot line.The 98 ft Seabrooke was 22 miles Northwest of Cold Bay Alaska the Seabrooke is out of Kodiak Alaska.The 98 ft Seabrooke is owned by Angel Pacific Fisheries.

From what i can say at this time is that there is a game 2 in the works but this is all i know i will try and let all members know as it goes on .As i can get some info from scott green i will pass it on.I just got a email from Scott @ greenwave games and he says that they are in the middle of trying to raise the funds and trying to communicate with Capt Sig Hansen because they are still in the middle of opie season is making it hard but i will be a playtester for the second game so scott will be keeping me abreast of what is going on and i will intern pass it on to the members of the website.

This new pot data sheet is a cadillacs of data sheet and as you will see after saving this to your files is just a awesome and i take my hat off to Lunar jax for taking the time to create it and to upgrade it to this one.What i did was uploaded it to Google docs which is free to anyone once uploading it to google it opens right up so you can use it everyone has a different thing other than google docs.I worked just as hard trying to get it to get it on to the site so i hope it works as good for all the Capts because i love it with the dollar amounts that you put in very good for the 360 game.It makes the game just that much more fun just click on to the TEMP-DCAS POT DATA SHEET and i will come up.
